OAI advances Breast MRI imaging with new
breast coil technology

Oregon Advanced Imaging's Espree and 3T MRIs have recently been equipped with Invivo breast coils. The new coils provide significantly more room, higher signal to noise (SNR) for superior clarity, and expanded coverage of the axilla and chest wall for increased imaging capabilities during a single exam. Using the new coil on the Espree open-bore MRI will facilitate exams of patients up to 550 pounds. The Espree MRI also has more headroom than any MRI in the region which helps alleviate the "tunnel feeling" that some patients may find confining.

Breast MRI imaging services are now available at all OAI imaging centers. For more information on OAI's woman's breast imaging services please visit our Breast MRI web page which provides important patient preparation information and useful educational links.

American Cancer Society Recommends Annual
Breast MRIs for High-risk women

The American Cancer Society (ACS) has established new guidelines recommending women age 30 and older that are at high risk of breast cancer have both an annual mammogram and an annual breast MRI. The ACS based its new guidelines on an independent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that illustrated the effectiveness of MRI in identifying a significant number of tumors that were missed by standard mammography. Visit OAI's Breast MRI web page for more details.

Enhancing Lumbar Spine Imaging

New Axial Compression Device Now at OAI

Oregon Advanced Imaging announces the recent acquisition of the new DynaWell L-Spine compression device. The new equipment is designed for use on MRI scanners, and simulates the axial compression on a patient’s spine when standing—when sciatica and neurogenic claudication are most pronounced. The device assists in detecting spinal health issues that are only seen when the spinal column is compressed, as it is when standing.

The new device will be especially useful for neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, pain and rehabilitation specialists, and chiropractors.

OAI Takes Imaging Technology to New Level

Monday, February 5, 2007 – Oregon Advanced Imaging (OAI) announced today the purchase of the first 3.0 tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner in the region. The new scanner will provide physicians and their patients access to technology previously available only in top medical schools, teaching hospitals, and large metropolitan areas. Read More...
