Your medical team may give you some specific advice about how to prepare for your PET/CT scan. Your physician or provider must write an order for your PET/CT scan. He or she may ask you to bring the written orders and/or previous exams (CTs, MRIs, bone scans, etc.) to your PET/CT appointment.

  • Our staff may contact you several times prior to your scheduled appointment date for pre-registration and/or confirmation.

  • Tell your doctor and technologist if you are diabetic.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant or if you are a nursing mother.

  • You should contact your insurance company regarding benefits and coverage before your appointment date. Please bring your medical insurance card(s) to your appointment.

  • Payment arrangements may be made with OAI Billing Department by calling 541-773-8603 prior to your appointment.

  • Do not exercise 48 hours before your PET/CT scan.

  • Do not eat after midnight unless otherwise advised. You may drink water. Two hours before the exam, you must drink three 8 oz. glasses of water. If you are diabetic contact our scheduling department at 541-608-0350.

  • Take any prescribed medications on the day of your test unless instructed differently by your doctor.

  • Please wear any hearing aids, glasses or dentures to the PET/CT center.

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing in layers. For some PET/CT scans we may have you wear a gown which is supplied for you. Please keep jewelry and accessories (phone, keys, change, etc.) to a minimum. A secure locker is provided for your convenience during the exam.

  • Arrive 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork needed by our office and technical staff.

  • It is very important to be on time for your PET/CT scan since the radioactive sugar solution used for the scanning process is created and shipped for your appointment. Late arrival could postpone your scan, your diagnosis, and your treatment.
